Comparing Braces Quotes Shouldn’t Be This Hard

You search for braces, fill out a form, wait for a call, and still hear “it depends.”

Then two quotes arrive that don’t line up. One gives a monthly payment, one gives a total, and neither tells you who will actually be adjusting your braces.

Before you commit, you want three answers. Is this the right orthodontist, what will it really cost, and will it fit your week? Here are all three before you book anything.

Why Royal Palm Beach Families Choose Murray Orthodontics

The same orthodontist at every visit

Dr. Murray examines you, plans your treatment and checks your progress himself. You won’t be handed off to a rotating set of doctors.

That matters with braces, because small wire and bracket decisions add up over 12 to 24 months. The person making them should know your case from the first visit.

Board certification you can check

Dr. Murray is a Board-Certified Orthodontist through the American Board of Orthodontics. Certification is voluntary, built on peer-developed written and clinical exams, and has to be renewed every 10 years.

He trained at Duke University and Nova Southeastern University’s dental school, then finished a three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Florida. You can read more on Dr. Murray’s page.

A practice Palm Beach County has trusted since 1991

Dr. Brad Taylor opened this practice in 1991, and it became Murray Orthodontics in 2023. Dr. Murray is a three-time winner of Best Orthodontist in Palm Beach County, in 2023, 2024 and 2026.

“Any part of the process that might have been nerve-racking was thoroughly explained and gently undertaken.”

Braces Options and Prices

Dr. Murray offers three kinds of braces. If you’re also weighing aligners, our page on Invisalign in Royal Palm Beach covers that side.

Metal braces

$3,000 to $7,000
What it looks likeSmall stainless steel brackets, with colored bands if you want them
Often chosen byKids, teens and anyone who wants the lowest cost

Clear ceramic braces

$3,500 to $7,500
What it looks likeTooth-colored brackets that blend in
Often chosen byAdults and older teens

Iconix champagne-colored braces

$3,500 to $7,500
What it looks likeA champagne finish that is less noticeable than silver
Often chosen byTeens and adults who want a subtler look

All three straighten teeth and correct bites. Dr. Murray will tell you which one fits your case, and the lower-cost option is often the right one.

You can see the brackets side by side at your consultation. It’s easier to choose a finish when you can compare them in person.

What Braces Cost in Royal Palm Beach

Where you land in the range depends on how much your teeth and bite need to move and how long that takes. Mild crowding sits near the low end. Larger bite corrections sit higher.

Your fee covers your visits, your imaging and your retainers, so you won’t get a separate bill partway through.

Here is how families make it work:

  • Payment plans are always no interest, handled by our office rather than an outside lender
  • Low down payments, with a monthly amount you help choose
  • A discount if you pay in full
  • We accept many Florida insurance plans and check your benefits before you arrive

If you’re planning around a tight budget, how Palm Beach County families pay for braces walks through the options.

What Getting Braces Looks Like, Step by Step

  1. Free consultation (about 60 minutes). We take X-rays and photos, Dr. Murray examines your teeth and bite, and you get your plan, timeline and total cost before you leave.
  2. Braces go on (60 to 90 minutes). This is a separate, longer visit. Same-day starts are possible if you’re ready at your consultation.
  3. Adjustments every 6 to 8 weeks. That works out to a handful of visits a year.
  4. Braces come off. Most cases finish in 12 to 24 months.
  5. Retainers at night. From the day your braces come off, you wear retainers at night to hold your teeth where Dr. Murray moved them.

Braces for Royal Palm Beach Kids, Teens and Adults

Kids

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic checkup by age 7. Full braces usually go on between ages 9 and 14, but some problems are easier to treat earlier.

That earlier step is Phase 1 treatment, used for crowding, a narrow upper jaw, habits, or permanent teeth with no room to come in.

A checkup doesn’t mean your child starts braces that day. Dr. Murray tells you whether to treat now or keep watching. Our page on braces for kids goes deeper.

Teens

Teens juggling school, sports and band only need an adjustment every 6 to 8 weeks, which is easy to plan around practice. Athletes wear an orthodontic mouthguard for contact sports.

Many teens also have questions about photos, what they can eat and who will notice. Bring those to the consultation along with yours. Read more about braces for teens.

Adults

About half of our patients are adults. Many choose clear or Iconix braces because they’re harder to spot in a meeting or on a video call.

If your teeth shifted after braces years ago, or you never had treatment, see our page on adult orthodontics. The AAO also explains what adults should know before starting.

Would Braces or Invisalign Fit Your Day Better?

If both are right for your teeth, the deciding factor is compliance. Aligners only work when you wear them 20 to 22 hours a day, and you take them out to eat and clean them.

Braces stay on, so there’s nothing to take out before lunch or remember to put back in. You do need to clean around the brackets and wires, avoid foods that could break them, and wear rubber bands if they’re prescribed.

Be honest about what you’ll keep up with. If you’re worried about a teenager losing trays, say so. If you want something less noticeable at work, say that too.

Some bite corrections are also better suited to braces, and Dr. Murray will tell you if yours is one of them. Our guide on choosing between braces and Invisalign covers the trade-offs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do braces cost in Royal Palm Beach?

At Murray Orthodontics, metal braces cost $3,000 to $7,000 and clear or Iconix braces cost $3,500 to $7,500. Your exact fee depends on your case, and you get it at your free consultation.

Is $5,000 a good price for braces?

For many cases, yes. $5,000 sits in the middle of our $3,000 to $7,000 range for metal braces.
What matters more is what’s included. At our office, visits, imaging and retainers are part of the fee.

Can I pay for braces monthly?

Yes. Our payment plans are always no interest, with a low down payment and a monthly amount you help choose. We go over the numbers with you at your consultation.

How should I compare two braces quotes?

Start with the recommended treatment and the total fee. Then check whether visits, imaging and retainers are included, and ask about any added charges.
After that, compare payment terms. A smaller monthly payment can mean a longer repayment period, not a lower overall price.

How long do braces take?

Most cases take 12 to 24 months. Simpler cases can finish sooner, and complex bite corrections take longer. Dr. Murray gives you a timeline for your case at the consultation.
If you have a wedding, graduation or other date in mind, mention it then so you can talk through what’s realistic.

How often will I need to come in?

Every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments, which works out to a handful of visits a year. That’s easy to plan around school or work.

Do braces hurt?

Your teeth will feel sore for a few days after your braces go on and after some adjustments. Soft foods help, and most patients say the soreness fades quickly.
Call the office if a wire is irritating your mouth or a bracket comes loose. You don’t need to wait for your next appointment to ask for help.

What will I need to do at home?

Brush carefully around your brackets and wires, floss daily, and keep seeing your dentist for checkups and cleanings. Avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage your braces, and wear rubber bands as directed if you’re prescribed them.
The AAO’s guide to life during orthodontic treatment covers more everyday questions.

Can I play sports with braces?

Yes. Wear an orthodontic mouthguard for contact sports, and ask at your consultation which one fits your braces.

Will I need a retainer afterward?

Yes. From the day your braces come off, you wear retainers at night. Teeth can keep shifting, so Dr. Murray explains how to wear and care for yours so the results last.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. You can book a free consultation with Dr. Murray directly.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept many Florida insurance plans, and we check your benefits before your first visit so your cost breakdown reflects your plan.

Should I get braces or Invisalign?

It depends on your bite and on compliance, since aligners only work when you wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. Some complex corrections are better suited to braces. Dr. Murray will tell you which fits.

Can adults get braces?

Absolutely! About half of Dr. Murray’s patients are adults.
As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment. Dr. Murray will evaluate your oral health during your consultation to determine the best treatment options for you.

Is there an orthodontist in Royal Palm Beach?

Yes. Murray Orthodontics is at 685 Royal Palm Beach Blvd, Suite 201, and Dr. Murray sees every patient personally. You get a Board-Certified Orthodontist at each visit and a price you can see up front.
