Clear braces at Murray Orthodontics are made of a clear ceramic material and are less visible on your teeth than metal braces.

Metal Braces & Other Options
Most patients we treat at Murray Orthodontics choose traditional metal braces to straighten their teeth.
Metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment in, but you have other options, too.
After your first free consultation exam, Dr. Murray will talk to you about which treatment would be right for you based on your unique needs and smile goals.
Fixed Appliances Vs. Removable Appliances
At Murray Orthodontics, we believe you should be fully educated when it comes to your treatment. It’s helpful for patients to understand the difference between fixed and removable appliances.
Dr. Murray attaches fixed appliances, like braces, to your teeth and won’t take them off until you complete your treatment at Murray Orthodontics.
When Dr. Murray prescribes a removable appliance like Invisalign’s aligner system, you’ll wear it most of the day, but you can take the trays out of your mouth.
The good news is, thanks to Dr. Murray’s Invisalign expertise, he can use clear aligners to treat patients with cases ranging from mild to complex. So regardless of your orthodontic concerns, you’ll be able to choose the type of appliance that fits your lifestyle.
Retainers
Retainers are fixed or removable appliances worn after finishing your orthodontic treatment at Murray Orthodontics. A removable retainer attaches to your upper or lower teeth and holds them in their newly-straightened positions.
Typically you’ll wear your retainers every night to sleep or according to the instructions from Dr. Murray.
Always keep your retainers in their case when you aren’t wearing them.
- NEVER WRAP YOUR RETAINER IN A NAPKIN! This is the best way to lose it!
- Clean your retainers daily with a toothbrush and dish soap using cold water.
- Brushing your retainer removes the plaque and eliminates the odors.
- You can use Efferdent or other orthodontic appliance cleaners, but they do not take the place of brushing.
- Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care.
- Keep retainers away from hot water, car dashboards, and the dishwasher, and keep them out of your pockets.
- If your retainers are lost or broken, please call us immediately.
- Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
